As you leave Saint Petersburg on your way to the nearest suburb of Vsevolozhsk, you will drive along the Road of Life - the highway leading to the north-east of the city towards Ladoga Lake. Trucks loaded with children and women traveled along the road to try to save the weakest ones from the besieged city during World War II. The 'Flower of Life' monument is a memorial to all children who had died in Leningrad during the Siege. It is a very tragic page of city history, but one that we should always remember.
