The cruise ships dock in the port of Gdynia, which is 10 miles away from the old town of Gdansk itself. Selected boats may stop at Westerplatte terminal of Gdansk, just outside of historic area.
For centuries, Gdynia (the port area) remained a small farming and fishing village on the Baltic coast. At the beginning of the 20th-century Gdynia became a seaside resort town and experienced an inflow of tourists. So there aren't too many places for sightseeing in Gdynia itself, but the selection of restaurants and shops is significant. The old town of Gdansk with all historical sites can be reached by the local train.
